Monitoring and Documenting Human Rights violations from National and International Perspectives

The Palestinian Human Rights NGO “SHAHED” conducted a workshop in Beirut “Monitoring and Documenting Human Rights violations from National and International Perspectives”.

The workshop aimed to create awareness about the nature of the work of the human rights organizations (nature, tools, objectives, challenges, etc.……); it shed the light on the means of observations and documentation of Human rights violations by revealing practical examples, and the qualifications needed for the observer.
Dr. Khouloud Al-Khatib represented the Lebanese Organization for Unity and Defending Equal Rights- LOUDER and approached the lawful and legal environment needed for Human Rights Defenders. Dr. Khatib focused on the contractual and the non-contractual mechanisms of Human rights defense, and the opportunities at the national, regional and international levels.

Ms. Afaf Shimaly informed the participants about human rights (definition, nature, characteristics, …) and the international Bill of Rights, where she approached many practical examples.
Dr. Mahmoud Hanafy focused on the United Nations International criteria of documentation as being objective, neutral, professional,etc… Dr. Hanafy revealed samples adopted by the international organizations to observe and monitor human rights violations.
