Who is Khouloud Al-Khatib
Dr. Khouloud Al-Khatib is a human rights defender, lawyer, and university associate professor from Beirut, Lebanon. She is co-founder and the president of the Lebanese Organization for Unity and Defending Equal Rights (LOUDER) and currently the executive director of the Human Rights Center at the Lebanese International University. She is the programme director for Geneva institute for Human Rights at Geneva Institute for Human Rights, based in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Al-Khatib Teaches Public International law and Human rights courses at the Lebanese University, Faculty of Law and Political Science in Beirut. She also teached at the Research and strategic Studies Center- RSSC- at the Lebanese Army. In 2018, she develops a Human Rights training manual integrated in the the Code of Conduct for the Internal Security Forces- ISF in Lebanon. She provides trainings on varied topics in human rights, HR Protective Mechanisms and trial observation mechanisms to human rights defenders, professional groups and youth from the MENA region. In 2018, she was selected as as board director at the Global Institute for Women’s Empowerment- GIWE- an international liberal think and do tank supported by the UN Women’s Empower Women Global Mentor for women’s Economic Empowerment. In 2016, she was elected as a board member at LSAC, Lebanese State Alumni committee, with the American University of Beirut. Khouloud is the president for the Parents committee at International School Of Choueifat- SABIS, Lebanon.
Dr. Al-Khatib holds a PhD degree in International Law with emphasis on human rights from the Lebanese University She also holds two masters’ degrees in Private and Public laws from the Saggesse University and the Lebanese University. Al-Khatib is a member of Lebanese Bar Association and a member of the Beirut and was a member at the Commission of Basic Freedoms and Human Rights till 2017. In 2018, she was granted a scholarship from Friedrich Naumann Foundation in cooperation with the International Institute of Human Rights (IIDH) and Rene Cassin Foundation in Strasbourg (France) devoted to “Human Rights Defenders“. In 2018, she was nominated as “human of Freedom” by Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

My message to the world
My name is Human…..
My nationality is Humanity…..
My age is counted by the moments in which my dignity is respected….
I am a human being, with a special power to love and be loved…..
I am alive, with my Middle Eastern features, with my skin color, and dark black hair.
We share the same sun that shines our days and keeps us alive; we admire the same moon that lightens our nights; we breathe the same oxygen!!! But I keep struggling.
I struggle for mutual understanding with you. I call you to joint our efforts to unite one way to defend my sister in Iraq, my brother in Yemen, and my child in Syria, with their different religions.
Arabic I sign, Arabic I speak, and Arabic I am. Through decades, we were punished for being who we are; for being born in the holy lands and in the lands of oil; we lost a lot of blood, a lot of unity, a lot of stability. We fought a lot to get freedom, we are still not free.
I’m bleeding, from the injury of Palestine I bleed, from terrorism that is killing my humanity I bleed, from killing each other I bleed, from marginalizing my existence I bleed.
I am bleeding for the indifference, from arming my country for countries interest. I am suffering from the double measures and double standards, from the world’s silence when it comes to build new walls, and from sight deviation when it comes to injustice.
From an Arabic woman who is facing a lot of difficulty to thrive in a masculine oriented society, I raise my voice. From Lebanon where I strive to for its diversity, I send my message. My message calls to strive for justice and accountability even for those who are in the West...Please help us to continue our fight for a fair and just world...my fight is yours too as we are one!
I am a woman, who insisted to get rid of the silk threads of the larva, and be a butterfly, flying in the sky of freedom, screaming with one voice: Liberty, Justice, equality, freedom, dignity and humanity are my identity.
